Toyota has now sold 3 million copies of the Prius globally since its debut in 1997. The popular hybrid took 16 years and 3 generations to reach that milestone.
Ever since the first Prius hit the road, the cost of its hybrid powertrain has been reduced by about two thirds, while CO2 emission levels have fallen from 114 to 89g/km.
